Computer Specifications

Undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Business and Economics, or expecting to enroll in the College, are not required to have a personal PC or laptop. However, if they are purchasing one, the following guidelines should be considered.

  • The machine should meet the minimum guidelines listed for WVU students: http://it.wvu.edu/services/students/computer-buying-guide
  • Several software packages and textbook-based software used in pre-B&E and B&E classes are windows-based and require a Windows operating system. If you purchase an Apple product, you will need to use Windows-based machines in WVU student computer labs to complete work for these courses. Alternately, you can purchase software for your Mac to allow it to run Windows.
  • Students in the MIS program find it advantageous to have a Windows-based laptop, but all required work can be done in the B&E Computer Lab. However, Lab availability is limited, especially during the day because of scheduled classes. If you have a Mac, you will need to run BootCamp and purchase a Windows operating system to run the required Microsoft programming software.
